Baltimore Violence

On April 12th, Freddie Gray was arrested for something that the Baltimore police haven’t said yet. He was but in the back of one of those giant squad cars and somehow suffered a spinal cord injury during all of this. The Baltimore police also still hasn’t released yet what exactly what happened, but this injury he got caused him to die a week later. He’s funeral was today and people decided to result violently to it. So far seven police officers have got seriously injured and many police cars have been damaged. The mayor has instituted a curfew that goes from 10 PM to 5 AM every day for the next week starting tomorrow, which we all know many people won’t follow.

I honestly think that it’s ok for all of those people to be violent towards the police because they kill so many innocent people every year that I think people should fight back. How are we supposed to feel safe if the people that are supposed to protect us kill tons of people every year? This case for example they won’t tell us what he was arrested for or how he got that fatal injury. It’s so obvious that they are hiding something and I think its ok for the people to do something about it. Honestly if I was an adult in Baltimore right now, I would go watch the protests and would be for them. Now, I would never injure a police officer or burn their car, but I would still participate in peaceful protests.

Religious Crossfire

Taking a boat from North Africa to Europe is very common for families and people who want to escape poverty or war. This journey however is very dangerous and a recent event just showed how dangerous it is. Yesterday twelve christans were thrown overboard by Muslims. Sadly all twelve of them died but luckily none of the other hundred passengers were thrown overboard because they all fought against it and they all went unharmed. An Italian navy vessel came and took all of the other passengers to Europe, and when they got there arrests were made. Local authorities arrested 15 people who they thought might have had something to do with it.

I think that's it's really sad that Muslims and Christains can't get along because I think there would be a lot less violence in this world if those two groups didn't hate each other. I mean God told everyone to love one another and the Muslims don't seem to do that. Now I'm not saying that every Muslim is violent and wants to kill because we all know that that's wrong. I was also shocked to learn how many people die on these trips every year. Since the year 2000, almost 22,000 people have died, and almost ONE THOUSAND people this year have already died. Overall, I think that one of the main steps in getting peace restored in this world is fixing the bad relationship between the Christians and the Muslims and this event just isn't helping.

Charlie Hill

Charlie Hill has lived in Cuba for 43 years serving as a refuge that Cuba has looked after. It all started on November 8, 1971 in New Mexico when Hill and two other men got pulled over on the interstate. All three of the men in that car were part of the Republic of New Afrika, a black militant group that was trying to make some of the southern states a nation for African-Americans. There they ran into Police Officer Robert Rosenbloom, who thought the car was stolen. When Mr. Rosenbloom went up to the car he was shot once in the head and the three men got away safely. They then made their way to Africa, where Charlie Hill is today. However, he wants to go back to America, because he misses it. He knows what will most likely happen if he goes back, but he is willing to surrender anyways just to be back in his home country and so he’s able to see his family again.

My opinion of this is that he is doing the right thing in returning to the US. He says he’s not going to try to run away, but he’s going to take full responsibility for his actions. I think we should have been able to arrest him though, even if the US and Cuba weren’t at a good place during that time. I don’t blame him for wanting to leave though because he is poor in Cuba and they don’t have McDonald's, which he says he wants to eat at again before he dies.

Charlie Hill says he's fine with his fate, whatever that may be.

Horse Racing: Has it Gone too Far?

Hello fellow Blogies. Recently in Dubai there was a horse race that had a lot at stake. This race offered a price of $10 MILLION to the winner. Coming into the race the #9 ranked horse in the world was favored to win. This horse was none other than the American star California Chrome. For those who don’t know who California Chrome is he is a horse who won the first two races of the Triple Crown last year. After it all ended it we learned that California Chrome races better on American soil because he ended up getting second in this race. The winner of the $10 million was Prince Bishop, who had a 14/1 chance to win before the race.

Before I give my opinion I would just like to say that I am not fond of horses and do not follow horse racing unless it’s the Kentucky Derby. But, in my opinion, I think $10 million for a horse race is a little absurd. I mean all that is happening is a bunch of horses running around a track to see who is the fastest. I mean California Chrome was bought for two thousand dollars and he had a chance to win $10 million. Honestly I think maybe one million dollars should be the max amount they could win but I can’t control that so.
