Charlie
Hill has lived in Cuba for 43 years serving as a refuge that Cuba
has looked after. It all started on November 8, 1971 in New Mexico when Hill
and two other men got pulled over on the interstate. All three of the men in
that car were part of the Republic of New Afrika, a black militant group that was
trying to make some of the southern states a nation for African-Americans. There
they ran into Police Officer Robert Rosenbloom, who thought the car was stolen.
When Mr. Rosenbloom went up to the car he was shot once in the head and the
three men got away safely. They then made their way to Africa, where Charlie
Hill is today. However, he wants to go back to America, because he misses it.
He knows what will most likely happen if he goes back, but he is willing to
surrender anyways just to be back in his home country and so he’s able to see
his family again.
My
opinion of this is that he is doing the right thing in returning to the US. He
says he’s not going to try to run away, but he’s going to take full responsibility
for his actions. I think we should have been able to arrest him though, even if
the US and Cuba weren’t at a good place during that time. I don’t blame him for
wanting to leave though because he is poor in Cuba and they don’t have McDonald's, which he says he wants to eat at again before he dies.

I really don't think McDonald's is worth as much as he thinks it is.
ReplyDeleteAnd what was the significance of the RoNA? Why were they in America, and was the car stolen?
This really demonstrates how rash decisions can come back to haunt you and have long lasting effects.
